Did you have a bad experience with your physician or physical therapist? In my experiences, I've spent a lot of time educating my physicians and physical therapists on various abnormalities and dysfunctions even though I'm the one paying them during the appointment. Instead of leaving, never to return, it’s important to educate your providers so they can learn from this experience too. If you leave without informing them of your experience(s) then how are they going to learn with the next similar patient they encounter? They won’t. While leaving a review on google or Yelp may be your first inclination, there is a word limit, you run the risk of it being removed or being taken seriously. Most practices have an online portal, email address, or you can write a letter to the office. The worst thing that can happen is that they do not respond or don’t read it at all.
Here are some things you can write without any mudslinging.
Describe your symptoms after seeing this provider – What worsened? What improved if anything?
Describe your current treatments that you are currently doing after you saw this provider and tell them what worked and what didn’t work.
Describe how the provider could improve their practice or treatments?
Write concisely. Writing several pages single - spaced is likely to be ignored. They are already limited on time so try to keep it brief and to the point.
Make sure that all your criticism is constructive and list the facts with no insults or derogatory comments. The more you can write with a positive tone, the more they are likely to hear you out.
At the end of the day, we still want as many physicians out there treating sexual health for all genders. Sadly, there are still physicians out there that are just learning about various conditions such as endometriosis, vulvodynia, pudendal neuralgia, and more. We don't want to bash them or get their license taken away so lets work together to get everyone on board.
